Cheers again...i got my question answered about texture resolutions...and thanks a much to those who gave me advice i apprecate it. Well, i was doing some more reading and came accross the Doom texture challenge thread. http://www.doom3world.org/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=7686&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=20
Realy nice looking rock textures....and its got the level of detail im aiming for (more real the better). But then i saw that this artist had a hight template, and an additional hightmap...the crack looking one. How does this work with the other hight map? can you have multiple hightmaps on one texture?

You can use image program functions (at bottom of page) to alter or combine images passed to the map keyword in a particular stage.

In the case of adding a height map to a normal map you'd need to do two things...

You can do this by nesting the commands like so...

Code:
map addnormals(textures/custom_1.tga, heightmap(textures/custom_2.tga, 10))
