Just as title say. I'm searching for two rare pictures from early (alpha?) version of doom3. First one showing mars city from outside and second one showing activated teleport at Delta Labs (from a part of video player saw in old communication center when hell invasion start). I'm interested with things that was changed or removed.

Like on this screen http://www.moddb.com/games/doom-iii/ima ... 1#imagebox :
-scientist got cool looking gloves (cybernetic arms?) and hold normal notepad (pda's was not so important in alpha?),
-level design - there is very big window (natural source of light) on right and building in background also have a lot of windows while in current D3 most rooms are dark and all windows are small and usually appears only in small corridors.

Thanks, maybe those screens are not the best quality, but it is what I was looking for.
http://www.giantbomb.com/doom-3/61-1453 ... 51-263462/
this one show portal to hell, upper part of computers look different than those in final version (that screens look good, but maybe they don't support animated gui), also portal look different more like door with ghost skull that ball of light.
http://www.doomworld.com/php/screenie.p ... m3_043003/
http://www.doomworld.com/php/screenie.p ... ew_120302/
Normal zombie with chainsaw while in final D3 only special thought zombies got this weapon, also look at dead bodies, they have id card while final version do not have that object ( in final pda's are important).

Yeah, there have been many changes to the final version. So bad cause some things were really better in alpha:
- The shotgun was beter
- the imp had red eyes (this is easy to do in doom 3 final version (mine already has) :)
- the doomguy was wearing a helmet
- some characters and textures were better designed
- the chainsaw zombie was also better :D
- they've cut from the game some awe monsters better than the final ones (like the original hellknight, spider mastermind, the zombie marines showed in the doom legacy ,

I remember this shot http://www.doomworld.com/php/screenie.p ... m3_043003/ quite well while waiting for D3, was huge disappointed that the normal zombies aren´t able to pick up the chainsaw and use it.
also notice the zombies head and arms on the floor left, yeah I though dismembering was also in.
same goes for that awesome clip of the pinky in the toilets eating a zombie, shame they cut that out.
I mean they allready had the animation and everything ...

these are great ideas for mods though, restore the pinky bathroom scene (I think it is in a alpha) and merge it into the sp campaing again, and a dismembering system like in Dead Space would also be very cool in D3.

I believe they just have no time to put in game all those things they made in engine. If IdSoft wait too long, few months more maybe D3 will be better game, but in that time HL2 was also released and good games have no big chance to be as good as popular HL2.
If normal zombie can pickup that weapon it will be possible to get it very fast, so think You got pistol, shotgun, machine gun and chainsaw - which one will You use against week zombie and imps? - chainsaw, but it will spoil balance of game. One weapon will be too much powerful then others.

(Good idea for mod: think - there is zombie group, one got chainsaw, You kill it fast because he is biggest threat for player, but other zombie pick up his chainsaw and continue charge on player)

Dismembering is possible (and could be cool if some one make this mod) with idtech engine but it will require more code, there is many possibilities witch parts of body You can remove and how will enemy act when he lose part of his body. I saw dismembering in Prey (zombie technican with some metal parts in his body - player can cut his head, arms and stomach), Quake4 (failed transfer zombie, some strog gladiators and big spider machine (zombie from quake and prey - another idea for mod) and in Wolfenstein.
Pinky, if You talk about him and additional animations for models, think about zombie security guard he is just normal zombie, but with gun, both zombie and zsec was created by lostsouls, so why zsec do not eat dead bodies like typical zombie? Why not try to make animations that will show some interaction with environment?

I would like to say they change it to make game better balanced, but:
helmet - how it is possible to walk outdoors without it? Lostsoul can easy posses npc guard in helmet and turn him zsec, while player are only bite by this enemy. In game helmet can be found as item, so why not put them in every decontamination chamber like in ROE add-on?
Chainsaw zombie was typical tech-guy who fix machines or clean floors, original hellknight was bit more compound object, his tooth was wet and he can grab player and toss him like in end of alpha demo, big spider was simple canceled - id don't have so much time to make him work, there was also baron imp - he was re-textured and put in ROE as new enemy.
Many things were changed like flashlight in alpha it must be attached to weapon or armor (that was better idea), in alpha I saw more shooting, no pda's and important interactive gui's (I like it a lot in D3), zombies can back to life (it could be cool mod, but game will need new balance) and few never used objects like white clothes, id cards on dead bodies. Original alpha was more "arcade" while D3 is mix of fps and interaction with environment - like useing pda and gui's.

Gotta say, 6 or 7 years later and Doom3 still looks good!

I'm playing Metro 2033 right now and it looks like crap for a 2010 game, in my opinion.

Ok, so he can survive 30-60 seconds, but if player can carry 9 weapons, a lot of ammo and every pda/cd disk he find in game why he can not carry his helmet on belt or in backpack? (Thanks to Dentonmod this one thing is fixed)

And here is something special, I was talking about early mars city design - here is video that show what I was looking for it even show more that I ever seen before at the begin http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pcpNIs2OTT8 just look at this new - old cinematic :)

Whoa! The old mars city was like a real city built on mars.
Also the temperature on mars is -60 C., its impossible to pass unless your brains freeze (read here http://www.marsnews.com/focus/mars/)
In the alpha, the zombies sound like possesed humans, while in the final version they sound like typical zombies.
The demons werent burning away
The pinky i think it looked better.
on doom.wikia.com it says the the hellknight had mechanical legs
also in the final version of doom 3, if you look at the mars skybox, you can see the original mars city

now some things that can be redone easily\have been redone
original imp eyes and pinky colour can be redone by copying the skin texture from the alpha in the final
in denton mod 3 the player has a helmet, and fashlight to all weapons
there are many mods that make the enemies ungibable, unburning
also tehre are some mods that put the original sounds in the final, and some things that are making the zombies revive after death
the spider mastermind model was made by rth team, then ChupaReaper made it into D3, OC_Klonseman still working. And Phobos are making arachnotron.

Now You see what I was talking about at beginning of this topic :) That's how mars city should look, as You see there is a lot of dark corridors like in D3 final version, but You also see in intro that there is many places with windows, not alone small window, but big rooms with big windows showing nice mars surface and uac buildings.

There was a lot of good mods that fix many things in D3 gameplay and I hope there will be many good mods like Phobos/Desolated/Hardqore2 released in this year.

Yeah!
Also in this trailer http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j8NaZZa54cs at 1:38, you can see the revenant. His AI is much more better than the final one i think as he was running and punching player. Also the sounds are better. Damn, I wanna learn AI scripting, i'd like to see that revenant in D3

Also search on D3Files Imp Barrel Toss (Imp throws barrels at you) and Hellknight Zombie\Imp Toss (HK throws imps and zombies at you or at walls :))

Yes, I hear about tossing script - in game it was useing only about two-three times. There is a lot of things with enemy AI that should be fixed or added and this is one of them. Thanks for link, I do not remember female voice in that trailer. Yes, he is running! :) In final D3 he only walk slowly and punch player if he get too close.

And it has one third of the gravity Earth has. Maybe the base floors are magnetised.

I've got a custom revenant that could easily have slightly different ai. That's actually not a bad idea because I've already got an archvile that behaves differently and my revenants rockets aren't homing (although they are faster), so he could be a melee orientated revenant.

You know the author of those mods isn't too far away from you right now! Ask him nicely and he might even do the pickupable chainsaw. If not I'll have a go if you don't mind waiting. Should be fairly simple.

Attach a hidden chainsaw to zombies that I want to be able to use it.
Spawn a spanner/flashlight to drop to the floor and hide the original/unhide the chainsaw.
Trigger a float in the script to change the behaviour.

I'll just need an anim. Maybe I can do something by manually editing one of the existing ones.

Desolated has a release date, this month! I really can't wait. Hope 2010 will also see HardQore, Phobos, Hexen, Ruiner, Thievous.

Desolated... HERE I COME!

The rest... I WILL COME!!
