Hey, chinagreenelvis guess what - i have the exact same problem as you do!

I just checked for it - i always thought my system just wasn't powerfull enough because i'm playing in high-res + AA + AF normally.

But without AA/AF at 1024x768, 60Hz, i have the exact same problem while getting a solid 60fps.

Specs:
WinXP Prof. Media Center Edition (includes SP2)
6800GT 256Mb
Athlon XP 2800+
NVIDIA Nforce 2 Ultra based board

So it seems your card isn't quite defective...or mine would be also!
:o

From your comments it seems your running an Intel-based system, right? Then we can rule the mainboard out as a cause of the problem i think...

Changing the PCI Latency didn't do nothing for me also!
Btw, i also experience some sound static/crackling with my SB Live 2ZS while playing Doom 3 or Far Cry.

I never have any static, except the first ten seconds of Half Life 2.

"Let's just say your hour has... (snap crackle pop) come again."

And then it happens like two more times before G-man fades away into whatever. But I use a SB Live 24bit too...

I've narrowed this movement bug down to NVidia cards. I'm suprised Doom 3 was marketed as being HELLO WE'RE SUPPOSED TO BE PLAYED ON NVIDIA WE MAKE NVIDIA GEFORCE JUST FOR DOOM 3 when they obviously have this horrible glitch that makes things look like they're teleporting as you move.

If someone out there has an Nvidia card and they don't see this problem, they're probably just not paying attention. I can almost guarantee that it has to be OpenGL based or something.

Anyone know what the other renderers are that you can select by using the config files? I remember there being an option for it mentioned in TweakGuides.com but for the life of me I can't figure out what each option stands for. They're not blatantly obvious like the rendering options in Far Cry.

What I really want to try is to take a system that has this bug, swap out the video card with ATI/NVidia and see if the bug continues. My roommate upstairs has a system which doesn't display these ill effects. I wonder if I can get him to try it out.

HL2 has a DX render, so it's not an OpenGL thing.

Could be something DX related as ALL windows software uses it... what version of DX do you have? When I had the DX 9 SDK installed things got borked all the time.

HL2 is a different story. Doom 3 is the problem.

Can anyone who has seen this problem that is using an NVidia card swap out with an ATI card to test? I couldn't convince my roomie to let me borrow his.

I tried to get rid of the problem 4+ hours now without any success!

When i disable 5.1 sound in Doom, the sound crackling stops, btw!

I tried every relevant "setting" i could think of...beeing it BIOS or driver related. I tried Rivatuner with the "compatibility" option and SBA/FW on/off...i changed every BIOS option that comes to mind in this regard...nothing.

So, i tested another system:

Windows Prof. SP2
6800GT PCI-E
NForce4 + AMD64
Onboard Sound

Same problem there!

So, the problem really seems to be independent of motherboard/installed sofware/drivers...the only thing all systems have in common is a 6800GT!

I'm getting a little angry at NVIDIA right now...grrrr

It's seriously an NVidia problem. Nothing else you try will ever fix this, trust me. I've been at it for a month now and the only thing I've seen that solves the problem is playing the game on a computer with an ATI card. Still, I wish I could swap one out just to be absolutely certain.

I've been playing the game anyway. I hardly notice it anymore, but it still irks me when I DO notice it. Eventually I'm going to capture some video footage of it and show the folks over at NVidia what's going on. Not that they'll care about a game that's already over a year old...

I've noticed something though. It doesn't do it in deathmatch levels. Funny.

I read through the whole thing, curious, thinking 'nope mine is fine' and then went to try it, and sure enough when I actually look for it I notice it. I even made a simple little test map and it's quite obvious. I'd never noticed it before, so I wouldn't really complain about it. I'd say it's an optical illusion but you say it doesn't happen on some (ati?) systems.. Someone grab a high speed camera and check it out :D Curse my inferior human eyes..

Oh and yeah, I have an nvidia card. I'll try to check it out on an ati card sometime to convince myself it's not a weird optical illusion..

is your card still under warrenty? If so, give them a call (you can also e-mail them).

I wonder if it's the GF 6 line, or if it's PCI-E only.

I have a friend who has a GF 6800... maybe I'll give him an e-mail.

Since the hardware isn't defective i don't think this would help much...

AGP is as much affected as PCI-E.

the whole card line could be defective. Remember, Nvidia go hurt last year by the ATI 9700/9800. Nvidia could of released the Geforce 6 line not fully tested, or with a GPU flaw (remember the intel /0 error? it happens).

it could also be a feature on the GF6 series that none of the others had that's enabled by default. An image filter or something.

A friend tested it out with a Geforce FX series card as well, only to get the same effect.

I'm wondering if the 7800GTX does it or not...

I checked all the videos posted so far, and I see a flickering effect. However, on my computer, I see nothing of the sort, even though I examined just strafing side to side for almost ten full minutes.

If it helps, I have a Geforce 6800 LE (Pipes unlocked so that it matches a 6800 standard), AMD Athlon 64 3200+, 1 GB of RAM, and an LCD monitory (Samsung Syncmaster). I'm running on Linux, with Doom 3 1.3. It's set to high quality, on 1280x1024 resolution.

I'm pretty sure I tried everything from the 6x.xx to the 7x.xx with no changes. But then, my card didn't come with a driver installation CD, so I'm not sure which one it was supposed to be shipped with.

yeah i only get the sound crackling on my Nforce2, if i use the newer Nforce Drivers from Nvidia, but if i use the older ones, that came with my motherboard CD DEFAULT, DOOM3 runs fine without any sound problems at all, sorry i dont have the same problems you guys are having though, weird for frames to skip :o

This may or may not help any of you but I had the same/a similar problem and spent hours thinking it was a vsync issue in Linux or something like that. Anyway, I just changed my little 17" CRT monitor for my old yellow tobacco stained 22" CRT and it seems to have fixed the problem.

Have any of you tried using a different monitor?
