Great job! I' m really enjoying it so far.

Good:

- Fast player speed. Please don't change this! It also works better with the non-linear level design (backtracking isn't a chore when you are fast).

- Gloomy atmosphere with lots of nice details

- Great variety of new textures, especially many wood and block wall textures are well done

- Working hub system. I always loved that kind of interconnected level design in Hexen and Quake2.

- Good ambient music, and the possiblilty to lower the volume of music separately.

- Different footstep sounds per surface

- Nice water with working interarctive sound and gfx (something that was missing in Doom3)

- Story bits scattered arround (the notes you can collect and read)

Could need improvement:

- Sound. I think this has already been said, many of the sound effects are mediocre (gibs sound like someone eating an apple, for example). The volume of the player jump/pain sounds is too low compared to the footstep sound. Footsteps on rock sound like high heels. The menues could need some sound effects.

- Gib effect for the Ettins looks underwhelming, but is nontheless quite a hit on performance. Why not ragdoll corpse and a timed burnaway or "rott away" effect?

- The animation of the Ettins is too stiff (the Afrit is cool though)

- Unbalanced damage. So far I haven't died a single time by the hand of monsters, but have died a dozen times by that instant death spike floor trap, some instadeath spikes in the swamps and the unforgiving rib bone puzzle that killed me with some instadeath flames out of nowhere.
Especially the floor spikes puzzle in that gateway was frustrating. It was okay to pass through it once, but when I had to pass through the same trap a second time on the way back it really just made me angry. It's practically punishing the player for backtracking. Why not a painless shortcut on the way back (like a ledge you could jump down)?
And when I wanted to activate godmode on the way back (because instadeath spike trap just isn't fun), I got a smug comment from the console and an extra instadeath for free!

- Obscure puzzles, this has been metioned already. Especially the rib bone puzzle. I read the ferryman's note and understood I had to put the bones somehow in clockwise order, but it's still too obscure. Maybe a clearly visble pentagram on the ground with "key holes" for the bones on the points would be more intuitive. Those rock circles look like the spike holes, and the player learns to avoid those earlier on.

I had trouble with the spike trap on the way back too until I tried jumping it. You can clear two patches of raised spikes with a running jump. It's not a very intuitive solution but it works.

After the LOADING RAVAGED CITY screen, everything goes black.

I can hear, I can hear that I can move, but I can't see anything.

The spike trap is easy to evade by simply walking on the side of it. You only have to cross two sections of spikes everytime.

finished the demo recently. really cool stuff. Although it's not my genre, I finished the demo that means I liked it. Since it's in demo stage, I won't be harsh on my review. :)

+Weapons looks great, especially the mace. It shines so beautiful.

+Level detail is great in all missions. The thing that makes wonder is how you kept the fps high in big open areas with many AI.

+Some small secrets.

+Trap rooms at last level. I won't give any spoilers. :)

-No cheating. I wanted to noclip sometimes to discover if there are any secrets left behind the locked doors. Besides, I would hate the game if I didn't make save before trying the god mode. -_-

-Those big creatures has narrow angle of vision. There are some places where player can get close to them, and they don't see player although they look their back in *ss scratching animation. :) And it's easy to beat them even they are many in number.

-Losing special stuff after loading. Their amount drops to 1. Bug or intended?

-No skillpoint. So, no need to kill them all. I didn't deal with them in many areas.

-Hard to figure which one is the last readable in the list.

Thank you Hexen team who have put some work on making this mod. I voted already for the mod over moddb. :wink:

I know that, but it is still annoying. And meanwhile I had to pass through it a third time, on the way to the upper echelons.

The actress will be glad to hear.

The item loosing was not intended. Odd because we tested this all out. Is there a way to make it all disappear? I've quickly gone and collected a bunch of stuff, saved, loaded and still get nothing missing. there must be something specific when people are loosing artifacts.

Turning off special effects has indeed been a good temp fix for people getting the crash in the upper echelons. thanks for that. We'll probably get a new map pk4 up for those people. It really does look like it was a corrupted visportal in that area. Our mapper deleted it, put a new one in......not crashing during tests for him. We'd like to test another pc or two who had this problem just to make sure the new map is good.

I'm on the second playthrough now. I save the game very rarely, and items don't disappear so far. But two my chaos devices turned into banishment devices when I loaded a saved game.

During the first playthrough I hit the quicksave key every few seconds, and I believe that is what triggers the bug. To double-check, I started a new game, quicksaved very often, and soon items started to disappear. Hope that helps.

I've finally found some time to play this TC.
I almost completed the first 2 levels and I have to say I really enjoyed it!
I especially love the atmosphere, the music and the maps.

What I didn't like too much are the fights, which are always the same given the small variety of weapons and enemies (enemies also never represent a real challenge).
But may be it's because they are the first levels.

Great job!

edit: I experienced the disappearing-items bug too once.

Indeed, more weapons and enemies are in future levels, which are being worked on right now! While it was tempting to load everything in the first 3 levels, we did need to keep in mind a full game.

Bugger on the missing items bug! Hate when big things like that are somehow missed after months of testing :)

Downloaded this a while ago, when it was first released I think, anyway aside from the bugs which I think everyone else will have amply covered by now, it's a very cool showing, admittedly I got stuck on/around one of the puzzles, I think it was the bones one, if I didn't get roasted I ended up wondering around aimlessly having no idea what I'm doing (I'm sure that's my stupid fault though :oops: ), so I confess I got bored and went off to do other things, but I've certainly not lost interest in the mod.

I've been pondering for a while actually, now I'm no modeler/animator, but I do like to design things, mostly monsters, but I've dabbled with weapons a bit too, I was considering donating some concept art to the cause, if it's ok for some random Joe to do that, if you can use them, come to think of it I have an old nasty monster, I call him knucklehead, free to own, if you've anyone brave enough to model and animate him :twisted: .

Help I just downloaded the demo and I press new game it says Loading Ravaged City and then the screen goes back nothing happens.
What do I do?

It may be a technical issue with the mod, now I can't answer those questions.

But a good place to start would be first, reset the settings in the video card driver to defaults, you know, anisotropic filtering, anti aliasing, any overclocking you've done, that sort of thing.

If that doesn't work, try deleting the config file, I can't remember where it'll be off the top of my head, maybe someone else will know, shouldn't be too hard to find though, just search the game folder for files with the extension ".cfg".

Failing that, see if there's a driver update for your video card, that might help.

Please make sure your /base directory is clear. A black screen so far has been a result of people having other pk4's in their /base directory outside of the vanilla Doom 3 set.
