5.56mm Full Metal Jacket (beta version 0.45)

AUTHOR: Oneofthe8devilz
E-mail: Oneofthe8devilz@hotmail.com
Homepage: http://doom3.planet-multiplayer.de/5.56FMJ/

IMPORTANT ISSUES:

1. This beta version is now finally compatible with ANY quality setting and resoltion.

2. To run a dedicated server simply run the "5.56mm FMJ Mod Dedicated Server" shortcut.

3. Due to perfomance but also coding reasons I strongly recommend to play this mod only on a dedicated server.
In case you have to play on the machine that also acts as host DO NOT start a server from the game menue
but launch the dedicated server (by clicking the shortcut) and then launch doom³ to connect to it
(type "connect localhost" in the console to join your own server)

New Features:

1. Sniperweapons !!!

2. A new map called AT_WAR

3. Improved weapon view models

4. Improved ballistics

5. Countless little tweaks and bugfixes

=====================================

Thank you for downloading and installing the 5.56mm FMJ Mod ! I hope you will have as much fun playing this as
I had making and testing it.

If you encounter any problems while running this mod please send me an e-mail to Oneofthe8devilz@hotmail.com and I will
try to answer your issue.

INSTALLATION

Once you downloaded the rar file, unrar it and run the file "556mmfmj_installer_beta_v045.msi". Make sure to install the mod
to your Doom³ Folder so point to it (Example C:\games\Doom³)..Once the installation is complete, a shortcut called "5.56mm FMJ Mod"
is created on your desktop......

Double click the shortcut and play..........

GAMEPLAY

"desert_plateau":

This map scenario takes place on a small mountain plateau where each side spawns inside an aged bunker. Make sure to not
let the enemy infiltrate your base.... oh and take a look at the top of the plateau... you might like what you find there ;)
The huge trees give excellent cover in case you get ambushed from an unknown direction......

"desert_delta":

This map scenario takes place in a very hot and dry desert valley where each side spawns inside an abandoned desert village.
There are several ways to reach the enemy base and plenty of space for hot desert fights.... The desert trees are smaller
than the plateau trees but still serve well for cover.... also the village itself leaves plenty of possibilities open to
ambush the enemy from a position he doesn't expect ;)

"desert_valley_night":

This map scenario is basically the same setup as the "desert_delta" but takes place during the night... so stealth tactics
get even more important since the enemy can see your gunfire from the far distance..... It is curious how the village and
landscape changes its flair while everything lights up almost surreal in the moonlight...... ;)

"ammo_docks":
This map scenario takes place in a huge military harbour where ships in the background are busy with loading and unloading
their cargo. Once in a while an F-16 Fighter Jet is flying over the whole scenario trying to recon the area for the reported
intruders.... This map offers excellent close combat fighting where almost everything in the harbour serves as cover, from
the containers to the cargo boxes.....

"at_war":
This map scenario takes place in a country torn apart by war. The city where the two teams are deployed, is endangered by the
steadily enclosing battlefront (you can already hear various gunfire and explosions). This map demonstrates the power of the
doom³ engine, since you are to experience a part of town in all its glory including real scale Buildings, a canal complex
where you can watch the city beeing correctly refracted and reflected in the canal's water and many more things....As you can
imagine this realism and complexity comes at a price, so basically anything less then a "2Ghz CPU, 512 MB RAM and a Geforce 6800"
will run this thing as a slideshow in slowmotion.....

Features

- 8 different weapons, 4 per side
- Realistic bullet-ballistic (real modelled projectiles are fired and react physically correct while getting dragged down
by gravity as they proceed flying through the landscape)
- Headshots that are deadly with any weapon from any distance
- Really huge outdoor environments that are lit with a global lighting system
- 6 players (3vs3) support (can be increased if necessary)
- A BloomShader which creates a breathtaking HDR like look and makes the Landscaps look more realistic
- 5 unique maps
- realistic water correctly refracting and reflecting the virtual world

The Idea Behind it:

I always wanted to create a shooter that combines the awesome looking graphics of Doom³ with a more tactical game play.
I hope I will succeed in melting those two things together and enrich the Doom3Community with a Mod that hopefully will
find his lovers ;)

Final words:

Damn it ...... it was a hell of a long way to get to where I am now and even though it wasn't always easy to work on such
a project as a single person it still proved one thing......One man can make a difference....
If there is a will there is a way ;)

I hate to be a downer, but what's up with all the source textures being used. I mean you even used the normal maps as well :? I mean, the source normal maps aren't realy meant for Doom 3's lighting system. At least change the normals.

beyond that, I like it!

I think you agree that we are talking about the "ammo_docks" level.....so basically the ground and the warehouse walls could to be changed......

So basically 2 materials..... I will see if there will be time left to do so..........

As I said, I will try to replace those 2 materials at the next release (even though this would be Classice's task, since he contributed the ammo_dock's map)

I just wanted to let you know that any work on the mod has been halted......

The reason for this is that I recently started to play heavily around with Battlefield 2. Since it already has all the things (like ground and air vehicles, the general nowadays military system, weapons and hirarchy) that I always wanted to get into FMJ..... All it just takes for me to be really happy are some minor changes (like ballistics, blood effects and general weapon balancing)...

Another reason I like BF 2 so much is its excellent Stereo 3d compatibility and I think together with its huge multiplayer base (compared to the non-existance Doom³ one) I will be able to get more ppl playing it.....

Nevertheless i am very grateful to all the ppl that helped me get FMJ that far....

I still frequently visit this awesome forum and hope it will serve others in the excellent way it did me

I had a great time with working on this project and it helped me much to understand what comes into creating a computer game, especially since basically I was working completely alone on this.....

P.S. The BF 2 Related Mod will take over the FMJ name so in case you are interested, keep your eyes open for "BF2 5.56mm Full Metal Jacket" since a new website is going to launch soon........

that's sad... this mod looked great.

so... could you make this mod open-source (or something) so other's can do stuff with it? It could be a good start for some.

So i will be downloading this now

Thanks for all your work !

I always looked forward to your releases, sorry to hear you won't be continuing it! You did some pioneering things with FMJ, I really appreciate the work. Good luck on BF2 or whatever you develop on (which I actually really enjoy with the new patch... its now the first maintstream shooter I've seen with decent light machine guns)

I think it'd be sad to see this be discontinued. Doom 3 could always use some great new mods, especially multiplayer ones..Maybe not leave until some ground vehicles and new player models are implemented? :P

Or atleast give us an option to remove bloom..It looks nice, but it already kills framerate lower then it already is, which brings me to another point: Are these maps optimized right? I understand they're outdoor maps and such, but even in tight hallways and such I still get a low framerate. I have a geforce 6800, Athlon 64 3200+ and a gig of ram, and I found the overall framerate to be pathetic. If this was fixed I believe this mod would be excellent and be example of what the doom 3 engine can do.

I believe he has completely abandoned this mod for the time being so asking him to fix things is like talking to a wall.

Just becuase I wanted to try them out, I put some of the weapons in D3 in my mod.

I had to change some things of course...

The Uzi (mac-10) is pretty damn cool.

I could put all the weapons in the SP mode if he wanted
