For more details follow this forum where Jon Olick of id made some post about the voxel:

I don't know about others but this is the first time voxel don't look ugly to me.

Huh... The model seems related to this: http://www.gameartisans.org/contests/events/3/team4/preview_finals_1_5319.html

According to some other guy out there, this is a model from the winner Dmitry Parkin for Dominance War 3 competition & it would be a CUDA tech demo (Nvidia) for Siggraph, anyway the demo would be done by Jon Olick.

Please note that on B3D one of the organizers of that Siggraph talk specifically mentioned that last demo was Jon Olick's own, not id Tech. Also, JC mentioned that even if they go for the sparse voxel octree they'll still have a traditional rasteriser for characters.

maybe not officially "id tech", but id/carmack must have given the ok for jon olick to give this presentation and its a good preview on what where id tech 6 is headed.

Amazing how far he is zooming in on the Voxel Data. Wonder what the maximum Detail-Level will end up at in a game using this. And how the performance will look like. Thanks for posting the video :).

Looks cool, although I would rather have good gameplay than just another tech demo.

I'm looking forward to Quake Live!

What's Splash Damage making now? Quake Wars is a blast!
